A major European actor and one of the most famous actresses, Carice van Houten is probably best known as the character Melisandre in the cult TV game show Game of Thrones, a performance for which she's been recognized with an Emmy Award nomination in 2019. Alongside her performance as Melisandre, Carice Van Houten has also appeared in Paul Verhoeven's Valkyrie alongside Tom Cruise and Bryan Singer's Black Book. Instinct Temple is another recent project in which Bryan Singer played opposite Mark Strong. The show has been picked up for a new season. Love Life, her Dutch film, which is a language production, received the praise of critics as well as beat record box office numbers in Holland. For her fifth Golden Calf, she won the Netherlands Film Festival for Happy Housewives. The Dutch people voted for it to be the "Best Dutch Female Actress Ever'. Black Butterflies won Best Actress at the Tribeca Film Festival, and Instinct took the prize for best Performance during the Arcs Film Festival.
